Star Wars: What To Watch Before Ahsoka

Hello there Jedi Padawans! So, you're eagerly excited for the new Ahsoka Star Wars series on Disney Plus but feeling a bit like a droid clanker and buckethead around not knowing all there is to know? Well, the dense and rich history around Star Wars can be really overwhelming for both newcomers and casual viewers alike with all the various tie-ins, animated & live action series, video games, comic books, books, movie features and overall placement into the cannon and legends verses. Well, fear not my young apprentices, we here at LifeOfUz have got you covered with our list of essential viewing to get you all prepped and polished before the 2-part premier drops on August 23rd.

Okay, so one thing to bear in mind is that while the series may seem to be centered around everyone's favorite Tagrota Jedi apprentice-now-master, there are other important characters in the show that tie into the larger story and which will inevitably culminate into director Dave Filoni's Mandoverse movie arc. Expect to see fan favorites from the "Rebels" animated series such as Sabine Wren (played by Nastash Lui Bordizzo), Hera Syndulla (played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Captain Rex (Temuera Morrison), Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi), Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) and yes, even the return of Anakin Skywalker by none other than Hayden Christensen himself!  As such, this list will contain must-view episodes from both the Clone Wars and Rebels series as well as a few others.

My inner jedi fanboy would just say "Watch it all" but that is assuming you have 160 odd hours to spare which I'm guessing...you really don't. So here's what you need, at the very least. Note: I'm assuming that you have seen both the Star Wars movie prequels as well as the original trilogy. 

The total viewing time for 'getting-up-to-speed' and not being a total buckethead as per the below list is only 36 hours and which you could easily knock off in the weeks leading to the 23rd August.

1. The Clone Wars Movie.

The 2008 'The Clone Wars' movie marked Ahsoka Tano's debut in the Star Wars universe, portraying her early bond with Anakin Skywalker. While not as impressive as the later TV series, the film establishes Ahsoka's independent spirit and her dynamic with Anakin. It's a vital starting point to appreciate her journey throughout the show, emphasizing her growth from a promising Padawan to a fully developed character.

2. Tales of the Jedi: Life and Death (S1E1)

The inaugural episode of 'Tales of the Jedi' traces Ahsoka Tano's origins, chronicling her birth into a Togruta tribe on Shili. This installment highlights her innate Force sensitivity, evident even in infancy, shedding light on her connection to the Jedi path. It is a truly beautiful episode.

3. The Clone Wars: Cloak of Darkness (S1E9)

Exploring a lesser-seen aspect of Ahsoka's early journey, we delve into her spirited yet less assured persona. 6. The Clone Wars: Brain Invaders (S2E8)
