The Strangest Stranger Things Season 5 Theories 👻💀
— Because the Internet Has Lost Its Collective Mind, and I’m Here for It!
As you know from this blog, I'm a huge fan of Stranger Things. It is a perfect storm of 80s nostalgia, cosmic dread, D&D nerdiness, and the kind of storytelling that lets you suspend disbelief long enough to remember what wonder feels like. It’s The Goonies with trauma, E.T. with eldritch geometry, and a touch of Lovecraft filtered through synth-pop and adolescence.
And with Season 5 about to drop, the internet has erupted into a frenzy of theories so wild, so dramatic, so utterly unhinged that even Vecna might raise a slug of an eyebrow. Reddit has become a digital Hawkins: strange, dangerous, endlessly fascinating and slightly toxic.
So here they are…
The Top 5 Wildest Stranger Things Season 5 Theories
1. The Wheelers are Related to Vecna
I dig this theory. From the reddit post about Mrs Wheeler being Vecna's sister, separated at birth to Holy Wheeler being the chosen one to lead the Apocalypse and bring about the end of all of Hawkins - hey, I'll support this theory!
It's backed up by the fact that Nancy was spared by Vecna because they are related by blood and also Mrs Wheeler's attraction to Billy is attributed to her being drawn to cousin Veccy.
Probability ranking: 👻👻👻/ 5
2. Erica Sinclair Is the One Who Will Defeat Vecna
This is honestly the best theory on the list.
Reddit points out that in Season 4’s opening D&D session, Erica not Dustin, not Eddie (Yes, that's a theory as well), not Lucas but "Ain't no America without Erika" Sinclair lands the final blow against Vecna’s in-game counterpart.
Foreshadowing? Maybe.
A narrative flex? Definitely.
Would it be glorious? Absolutely.
The idea of Vecna being obliterated by a girl whose primary superpowers are confidence, math skills and refusing to take nonsense from anybody?
Inject it into my veins.

3. It's All a Psychiatric Hospital Fantasy… or a Giant D&D Game
Let’s be clear about one thing here. These theories? Terrible. Horrific. A crime against storytelling and a desperate attempt to bubble-wrap everything in cringey soap-filled mush.
The “psychiatric ward hallucination” theory is both insensitive and lazy. The “it was all one big D&D game” twist? Slightly less offensive, but still deeply disappointing.
Stranger Things has never been about escaping its fantasy. It’s about transforming it and about monsters that mean something. It's about trauma that reshapes worlds, not invalidates them.
So no, Reddit. Please sit down. Move along.

4. Eleven Defeats Vecna… and Erases Everyone’s Memories
This one hits like being crit-hit by a Mind Flayer.
The theory goes: Eleven wins… but the cost is everything.
She wipes everyone’s memories: Hopper’s, Mike’s, Joyce’s, Lucas’s, everyone’s - to sever Vecna’s grip on Hawkins. Yeah, someone's been chatting over the Wizard of Bleeker street and trying to pull a "Let's throw in a Spiderman reference - just for fun"
It’s bittersweet. It’s poetic. It’s beautifully heartbreaking.
And it’s exactly the kind of emotional gut-punch the Duffers might actually pull. But hey guess what? It's a dumb-ass idea so nope!
Probability: 👻👻/5
5. Will and Eleven Are Secret Twins
This theory is the equivalent of chugging three cans of Monster energy and writing fan-fiction at 3AM.
According to Reddit:
– Terry Ives had secret twins!
– Brenner stole both (the rascal!)
– Only El had visible powers (but Will's haircut in S4 was a dead giveaway!)
– Will was adopted by Joyce in a cover-up (he came with free fridge magnets)
– Will unlocks powers when Jonathan dies dramatically (grotesquely, guts everwhere)
– Will + Eleven fusion-beam Vecna like a psychic Kamehameha (super Saiyan Level 10)
– Vecna ends up blind, powerless and imprisoned (Like father like son)
– Eleven is crippled but starts training Will for the spin-off? (Cue X-Men theme)
Is it entertaining? Oh yes. Is it feasible? Not remotely. Is it beautifully bonkers? 100%.
If Stranger Things ends like this, I’ll personally eat my D20.
