1. Blue Eye Samurai

(Netflix)

"Driven by a dream of revenge against those who made her an outcast in Edo-period Japan, a young warrior cuts a bloody path toward her destiny."

With gorgeous, bloody visuals and amazing cinematography, this Edo-Period Japanese animated series is a must-watch. Rated R so not for the kiddos.

2. Pluto

(Netflix)

"When the world's seven most advanced robots and their human allies are murdered one by one, inspector Gesicht soon discovers that he's also in danger."

This overarching whodunnit sci-fi detective spiel is paired along with some intertwining stories that will have you questioning your morality and humanity. It's a great series but deeply layered. So, so deep.

3. Onimusha

(Netflix)

"With the heart of a warrior, a legendary swordsman wields an ancient, demonic weapon. But with every soul he takes, the more darkness consumes him."

Another Japanese Edo-Period piece that borrows from the Capcom gaming series with a familiar yet unique narrative.

4. Creature

(Netflix)

"When tragedy befalls a reckless scientist in Ottoman-era Istanbul, his student uses untested methods to finish his work with devastating consequences."

I'm totally digging the gothic Ottoman-era vibes in this Frankenstein-like retelling. The acting is top-notch and the dialogue pure poetry.

5. All The Light We Cannot See

(Netflix)

"The story of Marie-Laure, a blind French teenager, and Werner, a German soldier, whose paths collide in occupied France as both try to survive the devastation of World War II."

6. Justice League

(Netflix)

"Seven of the most formidable heroes form arguably the most powerful team ever."

7. A Man Called Otto

(Netflix)

"Otto is a grump who's given up on life following the loss of his wife and wants to end it all. When a young family moves in nearby, he meets his match in quick-witted Marisol, leading to a friendship that will turn his world around."

8. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off

(Netflix)

"A 20-something Toronto indie rocker's adventures in getting and keeping jobs, avoiding being kicked out of his apartment, and surviving encounters with the seven evil exes of the new girl in town on whom he has a crush."
