Edo-Period Board Game "The White Castle" Dominates New Owner Charts After Essen Spiel Showcase
The board game community is buzzing as Edo-period Japan worker placement game, "The White Castle," takes center stage on BoardGameGeek's new owner charts. Boasting an impressive surge in popularity, the game captured the attention of nearly 3,700 BGG users who added it to their collections in October. This surge propelled "The White Castle" to the top, overshadowing other contenders like the unexpected hit "Mountain Goats," a 2010 design that saw a sudden increase in new owners.
Securing its place in the top three, "Heat: Pedal to the Metal" retained third position despite a significant influx of approximately 2,300 new owners, highlighting its enduring appeal. Meanwhile, last month's leading game, "The Castles of Burgundy: Special Edition," dropped out of the top ten entirely, and "Voidfall" slipped from second to sixth place.
The newly-wishlisted games for October showcased a fresh lineup, with no survivors from the previous month. Leading the wishlist chart was "Evacuation," a game that gained over 2,600 new additions, fueled by the excitement generated at Essen Spiel. Following closely were Simone Luciani and Danilo Sabia's worker placement game "Rats of Wistar" in second place and the card-driven fantasy engine-builder "Evenfall" in third, with 1,530 and 1,501 new wishlist adds, respectively.
"The White Castle" continued its dominance by also securing the seventh spot on the wishlist chart. Additionally, games like "Planta Nubo" and "Ezra and Nehemiah" attracted significant attention, making waves among enthusiasts. As the board game landscape evolves, these rankings reflect the dynamic and ever-changing preferences of the gaming community.
