Once upon a time. A post-pandemic, pre-Pokemon, positively plausibly longishly load-sheddingly imminently due at any time sort of time, there lived a young spider named Parker with big dreams, bigger aspirations and an even bigger yearning for geek-related paraphernalia, board games, comic books and stuffs. Ever since the early days of 'Free Comic Book Day' way back in the early 90s, geeks, nerds and goonies have long held on to the belief in the sacred prophecy that the "The Geek Shall Inherit The Earth".
Fast forward a few decades and 2 Comic Cons later and the prophecy is pretty much in full swing. So, when Comic Con Africa 2022 was officially announced, the only logical thing to do was to make the trek from CT to JHB to experience the awesomeness that was Comic Con Africa 2022. And boy, did it not disappoint!
This year's Comic Con was bigger, bolder, louder and with a LOT more than all the previous years combined. Held at the JHB Expo Centre at Nasrec, this four day pop culture and gaming festival was packed with activities, festivals, e-sports, cosplay, local and international comic book creators, digital artists, tabletop gaming, merchandise, fan clubs, celebrity meet and greets and much, much more.
True to form, I did the Spidey Cosplay again and, with all the various Spidermen from across the multiverse all congregating at the Con, it was totally lit! Kudos to the organizers for a lot more food trucks and halal options this year. Also, some really fantastic exclusives, specials, competitions, e-gaming and board gaming options. Oh, and a fantastic line-up of celebrities including Jamie Campbell Bower aka Vecna!
