Dune

A mythic and emotionally charged hero's journey, "Dune" tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet's exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence-a commodity capable of unlocking humanity's greatest potential-only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

The one movie I am totally amped for this year is Director Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of Frank Herbert's novel. I am a huge fan of the Dune novels, the prequel novels, games, movies and even the Scifi channel mini series. The movie has received positive ratings and, with a stellar cast, is on my watchlist for October.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage

Tom Hardy returns to the big screen as the lethal protector Venom, one of MARVEL's greatest and most complex characters. Directed by Andy Serkis, the film also stars Michelle Williams, Naomie Harris and Woody Harrelson, in the role of the villain Cletus Kasady/Carnage.

I remember reading the Maximum Carnage and Planet of the Symbiote storylines back in high school and, together with the Fleer Ultra Spiderman cards, was hooked on all storylines Marvel could dish out pertaining to our favorite webslinger. We now have a fully functional Marvel Cinematic Universe along with a multiverse, a spideyverse and now...now...we have both Venom and Carnage in one movie? HELL YES!

No Time To Die

Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.

My Dad got me hooked onto the whole 007 Bond franchise as he is undoubtedly the biggest Bond fan I know. It's Bond, his back, there's secret agents, loads of actions, explosions, guns, British accents and girls. What more do you want really?

Don't Breathe 2

Hiding out for years in an isolated cabin, Norman Nordstrom has taken in and raised a young girl orphaned from a house fire. Their quiet existence is shattered when a group of kidnappers show up and take the girl, forcing Norman to leave his safe haven to save her.

The first Don't Breathe was exactly that: A thrilling, edge of your seat, nail-biting, hold your breath kind of suspense movie with a really unique plot and great acting from Stephen Lang. The sequel looks bonkers and worth a watch if you enjoy suspense thrillers.

Addams Family 2

Everyone's favorite spooky family is back in the animated comedy sequel, The Addams Family 2. In this all new movie we find Morticia and Gomez distraught that their children are growing up, skipping family dinners, and totally consumed with "scream time." To reclaim their bond they decide to cram Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle Fester and the crew into their haunted camper and hit the road for one last miserable family vacation. Their adventure across America takes them out of their element and into hilarious run-ins with their iconic cousin, It, as well as many new kooky characters. What could possibly go wrong?

They're kooky and spooky. The Addams Family is an all time twisted family comedy/ horror classic and the animated version was really good (although the spot for my favorite spooky animated series is still 'Hotel Transylvania'). I love my animated movies and I miss the days when I could use my kids as an excuse to go see them. This one is sure to be a hit with the little 'uns and the young 'uns at heart.

The Card Counter

The film, written and directed by Schrader, follows William Tell (Isaac), a gambler and former serviceman who sets out to reform a young man seeking revenge on a mutual enemy from their past. Tell just wants to play cards. His spartan existence on the casino trail is shattered when he is approached by Cirk, a vulnerable and angry young man seeking help to execute his plan for revenge on a military colonel. Tell sees a chance at redemption through his relationship with Cirk. Gaining backing from mysterious gambling financier La Linda, Tell takes Cirk with him on the road, going from casino to casino until the unlikely trio set their sights on winning the World Series of poker in Las Vegas. But keeping Cirk on the straight-and-narrow proves impossible, dragging Tell back into the darkness of his past.

October is definitely Oscar Isaac month. We have in 3 upcoming movies - In Dune he plays Duke Leto, in Addams Family he plays Gomez and now again, in the Card Counter he plays a gambler who mentors a young Tye Sheridan on the rules of the game. What's interesting is that in all of these movies he plays the role of a father figure. The movie looks slick and worthy for an (ahem) Oscar contender. It's also got Scorsese's name attached so looks like a stylish movie if you're sick of all the superhero/ scifi stuffs.
