The Small Screen: What to watch this September

Despite it being Spring, the snow-capped mountains means it's still freezing out! What better way to beat the cold than with a warm fireplace, snuggly blanket and an indoors date-night with your significant other or even a welcoming family movie night with the kiddos. Besides, with the pandemic still raging, what better way to stay safe than to stay home, get some snack, get comfy and watch a few movies or TV shows? Here's my list of what to watch on the small screen this September. Bring on the freshly popped buttery popcorn!

Here's lifeofUz's top pics for what to watch at home this September:

Netflix.

Netflix and chill? No worries, we got you covered. Check out these awesome offerings:

Masters of the Universe: Revelations

The war for Eternia begins again in what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor. A new animated series from writer-director Kevin Smith.
Man oh man (at arms), does this show have the internet up in a frenzy! Fans of MOTU were divided about director Kevin Smith's vision and how the show is more focused on Teela as opposed to He-Man/ Adam. I, for one, loved it. If you're a child of the eighties like me, are a fan of He-Man or just want something to watch while you're eating your Fruit Loops early on a Saturday morning, then this is the show for you.

The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf

Escaping from poverty to become a witcher, Vesemir slays monsters for coin and glory, but when a new menace rises, he must face the demons of his past.
This animated tie-in to the Witcher series is a must-watch for fans of the show. It delves deeper into the Witcher backstory, their training and the many perils of becoming a Witcher. Definitely NOT suitable for kids.

Sweet Girl

Devoted family man Ray Cooper (Jason Momoa), vows justice against the pharmaceutical company responsible for pulling a potentially life saving drug from the market just before his wife (Adria Arjona) dies from cancer. But when his search for the truth leads to a deadly encounter that puts Ray and his daughter Rachel (Isabela Merced) in harm's way, Ray's mission turns into a quest for vengeance in order to protect the only family he has left.
Another one that has the internet divided. Not going to say much more except - watch it and decide for yourself!

Monster Hunter

When Lt. Artemis and her loyal soldiers are transported to a new world, they engage in a desperate battle for survival against enormous enemies with incredible powers. Feature film based on the video game by Capcom.
Milla Jovovich battling Kaiju-type monsters with a giant sword? Yes please! And it has Tony Jaa and Ron Perlman along for the ride.

Ready Player One

When the creator of a virtual reality called the OASIS dies, he makes a posthumous challenge to all OASIS users to find his Easter Egg, which will give the finder his fortune and control of his world.
Steven Spielberg directed Ernest Cline's book and well, what can I say - it's a love letter to eighties pop culture. The overall quests deviate from the book but still make for a very entertaining movie.

Tomb Raider

Lara Croft (Alicia Vikander), the fiercely independent daughter of a missing adventurer, must push herself beyond her limits when she discovers the island where her father, Lord Richard Croft (Dominic West) disappeared.
This reboot was a lot more authentic and true to the game than any of the previous movie installments (sorry Angie). Great movie, excellent plot and riveting action sequences.

Nightbooks (Coming September 15)

A young boy named Alex becomes the prisoner of a witch to avoid certain death, he convinces her to let him tell her a scary story every night. Upon meeting the witch's servant, Yazmin, the two must use their wits to escape her apartment, a magical labyrinth filled with various dangers, before the witch kills them both.

Disney Plus

Okay, I know we don't technically have Disney Plus available here in SA but hey, what's a geek gotta do? You will need a credible VPN service (express VPN) or the likes thereof to get it here.

Marvel's What If

Exploring pivotal moments from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and turning them on their head, leading the audience into uncharted territory.
Watched the first 2 episodes and am totally hooked. The alternate history 'what-if' version of the MCU has so much going for it. For any Marvel fans, this is a definite must watch.

Amazon Prime

Invincible

An adult animated series based on the Skybound/Image comic about a teenager whose father is the most powerful superhero on the planet.
An animated superhero series that's big on emotion, story, character development and action. Really cool.
