The Big Screen: What to watch this December
The festive season is here and wowee do we have great movies up for this December holiday period.
If you're heading to the movies soon know that Ster Kinekor has enforced strict Covid protocols to ensure your health and safety. The kind and friendly staff are helpful and welcoming to assure us that the cinemas are regularly cleaned and touch points sanitized and the maximum occupancy within cinemas have been greatly reduced.
House of Gucci
When Patrizia Reggiani, an outsider from humble beginnings, marries into the Gucci family, her unbridled ambition begins to unravel their legacy and triggers a reckless spiral of betrayal, decadence, revenge, and ultimately...murder.
So Ridley Scott's been making some asshole comments about superhero movies lately. Well, he hasn't had much luck with any really fantastic movies lately either. The latest by the Scott seems to want to push the style envelope. The trailer looks a dazzling, quirky catwalk run.
Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City
Once the booming home of pharmaceutical giant Umbrella Corporation, Raccoon City is now a dying Midwestern town. The company's exodus left the city a wasteland with great evil brewing below the surface. When that evil is unleashed, the townspeople are forever changed and a small group of survivors must work together to uncover the truth behind Umbrella and make it through the night.—brandon_bee_10
It's 2021 and we have another iteration of Resident Evil, this time in Reboot format. The good news is that the reviews are REALLY positive. The movie seems to have gone back to its horror roots and, from the trailer, it looks genuinely scary. Worth checking out!
Clifford The Big Red Dog
As middle schooler Emily Elizabeth struggles to fit in at home and at school, she discovers a small red puppy who is destined to become her best friend from a magical animal rescuer. When Clifford becomes a gigantic red dog in her New York City apartment and attracts the attention of a genetics company who wish to supersize animals, Emily and her clueless Uncle Casey have to fight the forces of greed as they go on the run across New York City and take a bite out of the Big Apple. Along the way, Clifford affects the lives of everyone around him and teaches Emily and her uncle the true meaning of acceptance and unconditional love. Based on the beloved Scholastic character, Clifford will teach the world how to love big.
Okay, this looks darn cool. I like it. Plus it's based on a kid's book. Will be fun for the younglings!
Time Is Up
An accident will force 'Vivien' and Royan to come to a stop and reclaim their lives, one minute at the time, and finally start living in a present that perhaps will prove to be more exciting than any predefined.
It's romancy shmancy stuff. But with Bella Thorne. So yeah, there's that.
Spider-Man: No Way Home
With Spider-Man's identity now revealed, Peter asks Doctor Strange for help. When a spell goes wrong, dangerous foes from other worlds start to appear, forcing Peter to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.
Finally! Something worth watching in December! If you aren't hyped about Spiderman then seriously what's up Doc..Ock? With Spidey thrust into the multiverse and featuring all of Sony's favorite bad guys, the biggest question we really need to ask is: Will we see Maguire and Garfield as well? Are heading into a live-action Spiderverse? And more importantly: Is it weird to crush on Marissa Tomei's Aunt May?
The King's Man
In the early years of the 20th century, the Kingsman agency is formed to stand against a cabal plotting a war to wipe out millions.
Funny, spoofy and stylish. Like if House of Gucci met Austin Powers. Or summin' like that. The Kingsmen movies have been a hit so far and the prequel looks promising. Worth a watch with the lads. Make sure you leave ye cows n kisses, brush off ye dinky doos and head off for a rub-a-dub and a night in the old battle cruiser.
The Matrix Resurrections
The plot is currently unknown.
Neo aka Johnny Silverhand aka John Wick is back. In the matrix that is. The sequel's trailer to the hit trilogy that spawned decades of leather and long coats, hacking and deterministic theory looks absolutely bonkers. Like seriously, this is my second most anticipated movie for December. The plot is being kept under wraps, so how about I give it a go with my 2 cents:
The Matrix has become the preferred home for most human beings after realizing that the rave music in Zion just ain't fly no more. Everyone is happy living in virtual lala-land, free of disease, dry donuts and Ridley Scott's anti-superhero propaganda. All is at peace. That is, until Karen decides to kidnap John..err..Neo's dog - who is actually the Oracle but also the Keymaster. Now Neo returns under the pseudonym 'Babayaga' to free said dog with the help of Trinity who is now the Gatekeeper and together they usher in the era of Gozer who is actually Agent Smith but in Elrond form. Harry Potter also makes an appearance and so too does Wreck it Ralph, Gene Simmons and Steve Buscemi. Oh, and Nic Cage as Superman also please.
Sing 2
Buster Moon and his friends must persuade reclusive rock star Clay Calloway to join them for the opening of a new show.
Another one for the kids...cos the animated stuff is remarkably better on the big screen.
