Dungeons and Dragons Custom Builds: The Human Assassin Class

"From the shadows of the great city of Al Khuliyah, the name of Fesud is whispered on the streets. 'Alshabah' he is called - the Phantom. Skilled in the art of secrecy and stealth, Fesud seeks to rid the lands of corruption and greed."

Dungeons and Dragons Custom Builds: The Human Assassin Class

Next up was a build for a rogue archetype - the assassin. I managed to find a half-orc assassin build by user Wuyley on boardgamegeek.com which I thought worked brilliantly. I added a few tweaks for my human assassin build and am hopeful that Fesud will be a welcome member to our party.

Fesud Kheled Miniature

The mini used is actually built off a Human Cult of the Dragon Enforcer from the Tyranny of Dragons miniatures but it fitted my idea of an assassin perfectly.

Fesud's gift is his ability to enter into the shadow realm by performing a tactic known as the Shadowphage. This practically makes him invisible to enemies, even if he were standing right in front of them. The shadow realm also elevates his AC by +2 making it even harder for him to get hit.
One thing to note: Fesud does not count as the closest hero ONLY when resolving Monster tactics. Any other ability/ spell/ trap which targets a hero will target him if he is the closest hero or include him if the attack targeted all heroes. Also, if there are no other heroes for the Monster to target, it targets Fesud. It does grope around blindly in the dark first and, given the +2AC to Fesud, probably wont be causing any serious damage to the shadowy Assassin.

At Will Powers

Human Assassin Power Card: At-Will 1
Shadow Strike

Fesud's first signature attack sees the Assassin slip out of the shadows to deftly slide a dagger into an adjacent enemy and most certainly either wound or kill them. Without the gift of shadows, this attack is still pretty deadly.

Human Assassin Power Card: At-Will 2
Dagger Barrage

A ranged attack that has even more accuracy and chance of hitting your enemies when in Shadowphage mode.
Human Assassin Power Card: At-Will 3
Alshabbah

Alshabbah means 'The Phantom' in Arabic and Fesud uses his Shadowphage to his advantage with a second signature melee attack that allows him to quickly evade after striking an enemy. Whether you prefer to attack and then dodge or go in for the Shadow Strike, only 1 of the 2 signature moves is selected for your base at-will attack.

Daily Powers

Human Assassin Power Card: Daily 1
Into Darkness

A daily power that is extremely advantageous against stronger enemies. Ideally you will WANT to be in Shadowphage mode when making this attack as it doesn't flip for missed attacks so you still have an opportunity to Shadowphage and try again. If it hits, it deals out a huge amount of damage and allows you to slip back into the shadows before the card is flipped.

Human Assassin Power Card: Daily 2
Knife Whisperer

Similarly with this ranged attack, it's weaker in terms of the attack stat but if you do miss you still have the advantage of dealing out 1 damage to all Monsters on a nearby tile.  And, similar to Into Darkness, if you are in Shadowphage mode you don't flip the card and instead step out of the shadows and when ready, can attempt to Knife Whisper again.

Human Assassin Power Card: Daily 3
Shadow Seekers

Devious and cunning. This daily power has Fesud attach a shadowy form to a nearby enemy each time he enters his Shadowphage mode. The Shadow Seeker then waits until the Monster moves or attacks before dealing a deadly blow. This is one power you will want in your back of tricks!

Trapping Attack

Another devious attack that works well within trap-heavy dungeons and scenarios and converts the traps into deadly attacks against any Monsters.

Utility Powers

Human Assassin Power Card: Utility 1
Paths of Darkness

The shadow realm is a spooky place and only someone skilled in the art of Shadowphaging can travel between the shadows. This ability is useful for getting Fesud out of dangerous situations and also allows him to move around the board and aid those in need by stepping out the darkness and attacking stealthily. Note that it only works if 2 or more tokens are placed.

Human Assassin Power Card: Utility 2

Shadowmerge

Useful if you're pressed for time or simply need to attack in Shadowphage mode.

Human Assassin Power Card: Utility 3
Out Of Darkness

The Shadow realm is a comforting place in that you get to nurse your wounds and sit back and laugh at enemies as they desperately try to target your hero and fail each time. However, should you be injured, it's good to know that you can slip from the shadows and feel revived with a +3 to HP.

Human Assassin Power Card: Utility 4
Swift Evasion

Useful for when Fesud gets seriously pissed off as an enemy tries to target him. This utility allows for evasion and also the added the bonus in that, if you are in the shadows, you get to make an attack immediately after moving.

Human Assassin Power Card: Utility 5
Fleetfooted

A utility that is extremely useful in trap-heavy dungeons and scenarios.
