Comic Con Africa JHB: What To Check Out
😔Sadly, Life of uZ will not be at this year's JHB Comic Con as we will be travelling abroad. We've attended CCA in JHB religiously for the past 3 years and attended the CCA Cape Town event in March which was an absolute blast.
Nonetheless, we will cover the what's what and what's hot for the upcoming Con at the Expo Centre in Johannesburg. Here's what to look out for:
Download the Comic Con App:
Overwhelmed and blinded by the absolute awesomeness of everything Con related? Want a way to manage your Comic Con experience with up-to-date news in real-time, push notifications for any changes or updates along with a list of all exhibitors, artists and celebrities? Well look no further young padawans. The Comic Con Africa App is available now on both the Apple App and Google Play stores. The App is a must have for planning your Con experience and includes a helpful floorplan and program listing with easy menu options for searching and staying up to date with exciting news and events.
The Details:
The ultimate pop culture & gaming festival will run from the 22 - 25 September 2023 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre. There's ample parking available at R30 per vehicle. For more info, check the FAQs here.
While the Saturday and Weekend passes tickets are sold out, you may still purchase tickets for Friday, Sunday and Monday at R200 per day.
There's also an After Dark event at a cost of R200.
International Guests:
There's a star studded line up this year with some hot international celebs gracing the Con. Expect to see the likes of Anthony Daniels (Yes, as in C3PO!), Denim Richards, Veronica Taylor (yes, the voice of Ash from Pokemon herself!) and much more. Checkout the line up here and make sure you book your photo opportunity and signing sessions.
Otaku Town:
Enter the dynamic realm of Otaku Town during Comic Con Africa! Dive headfirst into an exciting blend of anime, manga, and Japanese pop culture. Prepare for an exhilarating journey as Comic Con Africa & Japan Pop Culture Connect present you with special screenings of the most recent and outstanding anime series, whisking you away to enchanting realms teeming with epic clashes and heartwarming stories. Local Celebs, Renowned Artists and Panels! Program! People!
Be sure to check out the awesome panels and line ups featuring acclaimed international artists, local artists and local celebs. With a program directory that is chock-full of things to do, you will need a time-turner to ensure you're everything, everywhere, all at once! (In fact, I think some vendors may even stock time turners!). Check out the amazing line-up here. Man...I have such heavy FOMO!
Cosplayers:
Show your appreciation for the art of Cosplay and let your jaw drop in awe of some of the hottest international & local Cosplayers gracing the Con. Be sure to arrange your photo ops and, most importantly, respect the Cosplayers at ALL times! Remember, Cosplay is NOT consent. Check out the lineup here.
Doritos Crunch Cup:
The DCC returns to Comic Con and again looks to be awesome. Doritos and Comic Con Africa are committed to delivering distinctive and thrilling experiences to their fans. Comic Con Africa, fans will witness a different gaming title taking center stage with a total of R7,000 in cash prizes available each day at the exclusive Doritos Crunch Zone. Note: Participation in all tournaments is free and open to individuals of all skill levels.
E-Sports & Gaming:
The DCC aside, there's a hella lot more gaming to be had at CCA! From free to play zones and tourneys to accessory sales to the Toyota gaming engine, you will want to be checking it out even if you're more of a semi-casual gamer like myself. Get ready to dive headfirst into the gaming extravaganza at Comic Con! So whether you're a hardcore gamer, a competitive player, or just looking for some casual fun, CCA has got your gaming needs covered. Don't miss the chance to snag awesome merchandise from your beloved titles and immerse yourself in gaming experiences like never before, featuring some of the world's most beloved games. Tabletop:
Something very dear to me (and judging by most of my blog content) is evolving the ever growing tabletop & board gaming community and what better place to do so than at Comic Con Africa! Hosted by the Unplug Yourself revolution, you will find a full line up of tabletop gaming ranging from learn to play to tournaments, Dungeons and Dragons sessions, Pokémon, Magic The Gathering, Yugio, Star Wars X-Wing, Star Wars Legion, Star Wars Shatterpoint, Marvel Crisis Protocol and much much more! Definitely worth checking out and signing up for a few games.
KFC Food Town:
Comic fans, brace yourselves for an epic culinary adventure with KFC's brand-new, mind-blowing limited edition menu. Inspired by the Comic Con universe, this menu is a feast for the senses, featuring unique and exclusive items that you won't find anywhere else. Of course, no trip to a Comic Con would be complete without a few goodies to bring home and with a giganotosaurus list of exhibitors you will be spoilt for choice. From gaming merch to comic books, action figures, clothing, board games, consoles & accessories, custom art, body wear, funkos and much much much much much much more! And of course all the big brands including Sony, Disney and more!
